I Corinthians 12:
25 – That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
26 – And when a member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
Acts 2:42-47 but Vs 44&45 – And all that believed were together, and all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and distributed them to all men, as every man had need.
Jesus is the head of the church and the church is the body. A body that has no head is dead; also a body that is not interdependent is not a normal body. It is sick! There is schism in the church this day: everybody thinks of his/her own and family only except some few members. Nobody cares for any other person. This is sickness! This is the reason why the church is weak and liable to the enemy’s attack. When there is unity anywhere, there is a great binding force that is not penetrable and unbreakable for the opponent.
A sick body cannot grow; it only becomes lean and weak. Schism (disunity) is the cause of redundancy and retrogression in the church today. In the time of Paul and Apollo, they quickly tackled schism; they know what it can cause and its effect. It weakens the church both spiritually and physically. If a physical body is sick; the sickness causes physical weakness only, though the cause is still traceable to the spiritual; but when the church – spiritual body – is sick, the effect is both spiritual and physical weakness; then the enemy has a good avenue to launch its attack. That is the reason why when you are sick physically; and you are not down spiritually, you will surely overcome the sickness, your body will respond to any drug administered. That is why when there is another challenge in the church, if there is no schism – I mean if there is unity – it can easily be tackled.
How can a normal physical body say, it is not interdependent? Which part of the body doesn’t need one another? If something happens to any part of the body, won’t all other parts of the body feel it? Even the nails that you think is useless, the effect will still be felt by all other parts of the body. How dare you say anything that happens to any member of the church does not concern you? That, “it is me and my family affair?” You are sick and you are not normal; though your nuclear family still comes first. It is not so in the first church, they shared thing in common – both in suffering and honour. It should be one body – one fold – affair. That is the old tradition of the church that is lost; and it is causing a lot of problem. There was no problem until there was schism and disunity in the construction of Tower of Babel. And when there is unity, there will be care for one another.
As a church of God, if we are going to be strong and powerful, we have to be a normal body where there is unity and interdependence; then we can become a mighty army for the Lord (Yahweh).
