Nuance could mean a very slight difference in meaning, feeling, tone or color, that is, distinction (Encarta Dictionary, 2009). Therefore I want to use it figuratively in this context to mean distinction. Hence, the caption, “Dare to be Different: Be Your Real Self.”
Dare to be different from others, and be your real self. You are not a photocopy, you are an original. Nobody can ever be like you, and you can never be exactly like any other human being on the surface of the earth. There is one thing you can do the best even among one thousand people.
Be the best you can be. There is no need for negative competition with any other person, though the positive one is allowed; the only one person you really need to compete with is yourself, in order to be and give your best. You don’t force yourself in the mould of being another person. Even parents do make this mistake, they want their children to be like them or like someone they know, it doesn’t always work like that. You can encourage them to be what you want them to be, but if they decline, you leave them and give them a full support.
In the movie titled, “Like Stars on Earth,” his parents thought he was daft, they wanted him to be like every other children. He would draw anything in his books, but when he comes to writing and reading, the boy, Hishan was not interested. The parents were trying to make him conform to a typical pupil in his school. They tried everything to change him, but all to no avail, every effort proved abortive. The father threatened him, but thanks to the mother that at least offered him a little support. They changed his school, though he did not want to go to Boarding school, yet they forced him to be there. Boarding school has its advantage.
Thank God for an angel that was sent in person of a male teacher. This teacher was the one that discovered who Hishan is, when it comes to NATURE DRAWING, the little boy was a master. Somebody that was at the bottom of the class. The teacher organized a Drawing Competition, whereby everybody in the school has to participate, the principal, all teachers, and all non-teaching staff. Everybody! On the day of the Competition, everybody was present, except Hishan. They did not wait for anybody. Time management is very important, when it comes to success of a school and every endeavor! At last, the boy everybody thought was daft showed up after 30 minutes had already gone. He started his drawing with a path from his lovable teacher.
When everybody was done. They all submitted, and their drawings were graded. Amidst thousands of people, both young and old, it was a surprise that Hishan came first. What gave him the edge is that there is a NUANCE in the mix of the colors he used for his drawings. Since then, he was really improving in all his subjects, and he became one of the best in the school. Thank God for his angel – the teacher.
The parents did not recognize that he is distinct, that he is different from other children. They wanted to force him into the mould of others. Therefore I urge you to dare to be different, and be your real self!
