God’s Generals 3: Evan Roberts

Don’t stop until you are finished. The world is searching for the answer within you.

Evan Roberts was born on June 8, 1878. As a Welsh Revivalist, his ministry was cut short because he never took rest; he prayed seven hours a day (9 – 12, 1 – 5 a.m).

For Evan, instead of teaching the people concerning the gifts of the spirit (what they don’t know), he continued to operate in them. The voices Evan was hearing began to trouble him greatly. Instead of receiving counsel from mature leaders, he chose to continue following the signs and to ignore the uneasiness within. It caused emotional collapse.

Penn-Lewis depicts the Jezebel and Delilah of Evan Roberts. He died at the age of 72 (September 1950).

      1. Thanks a lot. There are many lessons to learn from the great generals. They were all successful, but they have their Achilles’ heels which we have to learn from, so that we don’t fall into the same pits they fell into.

  1. Good morning and thanks for this nice remembrance. I would suggest putting a picture of the preacher so we can relate better to his important message. He reminds me of the great Saint Anthony of our Catholic Church who preached tirelessly and died very young after a long tour in the Italian countryside. Arrivederci!
